A man OF the People, FROM the People, TO the People, FOR the People!

Jeffrey Ostler For Utah State Auditor 2025 to 2029

The political polarization, hypocrisy, and acrimony which dominates the government
arena today is readily apparent to anyone observing politics today. It has become a
dominant factor in every policy that is established, and in every decision that faces
society. All too often, the competing party-driven agendas have become the
watchword of the day, rather than seeking sound, principles-based solutions that will
endure the test of time, and assure a stable, predictable basis for society.
The American Founding Fathers considered such matters as they established this
great nation. In fact, the term “General Welfare,” in their usage in the Constitution
had nothing to do with distribution of money but, rather, with creating a good
government that protected society against the upheaval of economic turmoil, civil
disruption, corruption, violence, and unrest. In pursuit of this ideal, they sought to
establish a government whose powers were few and well defined, and in which
individuals, families, business enterprises, and religious endeavors could be
confident that their efforts would meet success.
The American Founders eloquently warned against putting our liberty at risk by
creating political parties. In his monumental “Farewell Address,” George Washington
wrote:
“The common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it
the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.
“It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public
administration.
It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms; kindles the
animosity of one part against another; foments occasionally riot and insurrection.”
And regarding electing representatives worthy of our trust, American Founding
Father Noah Webster wrote:
“All secret attempts, by associations or otherwise to give one set of men or one
party, advantages over another are mean, dishonorable and immoral. All secret
combinations of men to gain for themselves or their party, advantages in
preferments to office, are trespasses upon the rights of others.”
“. . . nothing can be honorable which is morally wrong.”
“God commands you to choose for rulers, just men who will rule in the fear of God.
The preservation of a republican government depends on the faithful discharge of
this duty; if the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office, the
government will soon be corrupted; laws will be made, not for the public good, so
much as for selfish or local purposes; corrupt or incompetent men will be appointed
to execute the laws; the public revenues will be squandered on unworthy men; and
the rights of the citizens will be violated or disregarded.”
Additionally, America’s Founders wisely created a system under which the
economics of the State would be founded upon a sound monetary system that could
not be corrupted or manipulated by either the political machine, or by corporations
driven by avarice at the expense of the well-being of society.
Pertaining to the scope of responsibility borne by the State Auditor, Article I, Section
10, clause 1 of the United States Constitution states:
“No State shall . . . coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and
silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; (nor) pass any . . . Law impairing the
Obligation of Contracts . . .”
And the Constitution of Utah state requires both an accurate statement of the receipt
and expenditure of public money be published annually, and careful review and

oversight of the public debt, as well as adherence to the mandates of the
Constitution of the united states of America (1789). Administration of these matters
are of critical importance in the successful management of the state. Regarding
these matters, as pertaining to management of the financial affairs of the State of
Utah, I wholeheartedly embrace the wise counsel given more than 200 years ago by
Thomas Jefferson:
“I . . . place economy among the first and most important of republican virtues, and
public debt as the greatest of the dangers to be feared.”
“I am for . . . applying all the possible savings of the public revenue to the discharge
of the national debt.”
“The principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding,
is but swindling futurity on a large scale.”
As Utah state Auditor, I pledge to exercise the researching power of the office to
restore and preserve the sound financial and foundational principles upon which
liberty and proper government were to be established and retained. As the only truly
independent Constitutionalist candidate for this office, I will be beholden to no party
agenda, nor to the power base contrived by the major political parties that have
dominated the State for so long, nor to any corporate entity which holds sway in the
policies of the State. I will not bow down to nor rubber stamp the wishes of the
elected governor or legislature, but rather as servant to the people to report the
findings of all our examinations of the Auditor’s office.
If elected to this office, I pledge that every action I take, and every review of both
revenues and expenses that is carried out by this office, will be based upon the
timeless principles embodied in the founding documents and precepts fostered by
both the American Founders and the Pioneer stock who carved out of this great
desert a land that was intended by them to be a land of liberty wherein God-given
rights could be enjoyed by all, and government would be constrained to operate only
within the scope and bounds defined within the Constitution for the united States of
America, and the Original Constitution of Utah state.
